A Working Vision
Colorado The Best Place in the World to Be a Learner
We believe Colorado can become the best place in the world to be a learner.
Not simply the state with the highest test scores, most innovative schools, or most workforce credentials.
The best place to be a learner.
A place where learning is woven into the fabric of everyday life.
A place where every young person is known, valued, challenged, and connected to meaningful opportunities to grow.
A place where learning is not confined to classrooms but alive in communities, workplaces, parks, libraries, museums, studios, farms, businesses, nonprofits, and neighborhoods.
A place where every learner can discover who they are, what they care about, and how they can contribute.
We believe that learning was never meant to be separate from life.
Long before schools existed, people learned through participation. They learned by observing, questioning, experimenting, creating, serving, building, and belonging. Learning happened in relationship with others and in response to real needs, real challenges, and real opportunities.
Yet, somewhere along the way, learning became disconnected from living.
We divided knowledge into subjects.
Separated generations from one another.
Confined learning to designated spaces.
Reduced growth to measurements.
And unintentionally taught young people that learning is something that happens before "real life" begins.
At CultivatED Colorado, we believe there is another way.
We envision a Colorado where learning is recognized as a lifelong human endeavor and where every community sees itself as responsible for helping young people flourish.
A Colorado where learners regularly engage with people of different ages, backgrounds, professions, and perspectives.
A Colorado where businesses, artists, tradespeople, scientists, entreprenuers, civic leaders, retirees, and neighbors see themselves as educators.
A Colorado where young people learn through contribution, not just consumption.
A Colorado where belonging isn't an initiative, but a shared commitment.
A Colorado where every learner is known well enough to be challenged appropriately, supported meaningfully, and celebrated authentically.
A Colorado where assessment helps learners understand themselves rather than simply rank themselves.
A Colorado where curiosity is protected and creativity is cultivated.
Where purpose is discovered through experience.
Where young people leave learning environments not asking, "When will I ever use this?" because they have been immersed in meaningful learning from the beginning.
We envision learning ecosystems rather than isolated institutions.
Small learning communities connected to larger networks.
Lab schools exploring new possibilities.
Public schools, independent schools, microschools, homeschool networks, higher education, employers, and community organizations learning alongside one another.
Sharing ideas instead of protecting them.
Growing innovation.
We believe Colorado can become a living laboratory for the future of learning.
A place where new ideas can emerge, be tested, refined, documented, and shared.
A place where research and development is a natural part of how we improve education.
A place where educators are trusted and founders have pathways to launch new models.
Where communities have the support needed to design solutions that reflect their local context while contributing to collective learning.
We believe the future of learning won't be built by schools alone but by communities, relationships, and by people willing to see themselves as connected to the success of every learner.
Learners don't exist apart from us.
Their flourishing shapes our flourishing.
Their growth expands what is possible for all of us.
We don't just want a better education system, we want to create the conditions for human flourishing.
For learners. For educators. For communities. For Colorado.
We don't claim to have all the answers, this is a working vision. A possibility we are choosing to pursue together.
The future isn't something that happens to us, it's something we build.
And if we build it together, Colorado can become the place where the future of learning is imagined, tested, and realized.
The best place in the world to be a learner.
